Religion



  • Students will learn that God is our Father and the Creator of all
  • Students will learn and participate in the Catholic tradition of prayer
  • Students will celebrate the liturgical seasons of Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter
  • Students will attend Mass once a week with the school community

Reading

  • Students will identify the elements of plot, character and setting
  • Students will comprehend literature that is grade level appropriat
  • Students will identify the main idea of a story



Phonics

  • Students will blend sounds to produce single and multi-syllable words​
  • ​​Students will decode one-syllable words in the major syllable patterns ​
  • Students will recognize common and irregularly spelled high-frequency words​
  • Students will read words in common word families​
  • Students will become familiar with root words, affixes, compound words and contractions

Language Arts

  • Students will recognize the components of a sentence (capitals, punctuation, etc.)
  • Students will identify nouns and verbs
  • Students will correctly spell words with common word patterns

Math

  • Students will demonstrate fluency with addition and subtraction facts within 20
  • Students will use place value understanding to compare two two-digit numbers
  • Students will solve real-world problems involving addition and subtraction
  • Students will add within 100 using two-digit numbers
  • Students will tell and write time to the nearest half-hour
  • Students will define shapes as two or three-dimensional and classify their attributes
  • Students will organize and interpret data

Science

  • Students will characterize materials as solid or liquid and investigate their properties
  • Students will observe living organisms closely over time
  • Students will classify living organisms according to their physical features
  • Students will observe  basic needs for growth and survival (water, food, air, etc.)


Social Studies

  • Students will identify people and events observed in national celebrations and holidays
  • Students will define rules and laws and the characteristics of a good citizen
  • Students will identify the cardinal directions
  • Students will discern between goods and services and consumers and producers
