Middle School Social Studies...Around the World in 180 Days!

Students in Middle School Social Studies actively engage in the topics they are learning.  From building Greek temples and sculpting like Michelangelo, to being archaeologists uncovering Indus River Valley artifacts to acting as delegates to the Constitutional Convention, history comes alive for the Social Studies students in Room 2.

6th Social Studies



  • Students will compare the history, geography,economies and cultures of the Western World, emphasizing North America, South America and Europe.
  • Students will have opportunities to develop skills using a wide variety of resources and activities.
  • Students will apply critical thinking, reading and writing skills as they meet the people and times they study.

7th Social Studies


  • Students examine the major movements, events and figures that contributed to the development of nations in the Eastern World, with an emphasis on Africa and Asia.
  • Students examine religious institutions,trade cultural interactions, governments and technological developments in Africa and Asia.
  • Students have learning experiences which help them transition from concrete information to abstract ideas and concepts.

8th Social Studies

  • Students focus on United States history, beginning with a review of early history, then studying early national development, westward expansion, so reform movements and the Civil War and Reconstruction period.
  • Students examine the principles of the United States Constitution as well as other primary documents and their application to American history.
  • Students explore major themes, issues, events, movements and figures in the history of the United States up to 1877.
